A Moment with Jane Devonshire

A Moment with Jane Devonshire

Since winning MasterChef in 2016, life hasn’t been quite the same for Hampshire’s Jane Devonshire. Propelled into the limelight, she has had the opportunity to cook alongside talented chefs in locations across the world.

“It’s been such a journey! I’ve cooked with so many of my food heroes and Michelin starred chefs.” reflects Jane. “And through Hampshire Fare I have met lots of wonderful people involved in food. I have been able to reinvent myself and go back to work at the age of fifty doing something I love.”

Jane’s latest achievement has been the launch of her own cookery book, Hassle Free Gluten Free. The book features Jane’s favourite family recipes which are all gluten free due to her son Ben being diagnosed as a coeliac disease at the age of two.

“When Ben was diagnosed, I quickly realised I could make him better with diet and I knew that I didn’t want to be serving him different dinners to the rest of the family. Food should be first and foremost inclusive and full of sharing times with family and friends. I had to adapt very quickly and come up with recipes that fitted with all occasions and our busy lives, “explains Jane.

Whether you need to eat gluten free or not, this book is packed with inspiring recipes for family dining and entertaining. From nibbles and starters to decadent desserts there is something delicious for all occasions.Cookbook.jpg

Greg Wallace, MasterChef judge, is already a fan of Jane’s book: “I love Jane. I love her cooking. She won MasterChef so of course she is an incredibly talented cook. I professionally meet people who want advice on gluten free. I now have a thorough and clever book to guide them to.”

Cooking has always been an important part of family life for Jane. Her mother and nanna inspired her with their cooking and their recipes continue to be the source of many of the ideas for the dishes she now creates.

Jane has also been influenced by the local producers she has discovered around her in Hampshire. “There are so many small producers making excellent food and drink, I love supporting these people. There are so many reasons why I think it is vital to support local suppliers, from the carbon footprint to the flavour factor it just makes sense. The trout, watercress, cheese, gin, buffalo, game and partridge are just some of the amazing ingredients we have here in Hampshire.”
